A new one. Lyrics below, find me on IG @chrisrossmusic and FB at Chris Ross Music I imagine I will haunt this house forever Pace these wooden floors until they burn and turn to coals To the family that might buy it from the bankers, I'm so sorry That I haven't got around to movin' on But I'll do my damnedest not to be intrusive Only show my face but once or twice a year When the first snow leav...

PROPS !!!!
raging dissident brought me here.
I think Jac Ross can do this song some justice also. He already did "Trouble" and it sound better then the original. I think Ray would be proud.
lovin the steve earle vibe.
man you sing it right
Do u play in dhar Mann?!
wow, wow wow. so well done
This. Is. The. Version. That should be playing on things like my echo. Your 'studio' version does not do it justice. Love your music
You did a great job on this song could ya do one more than a memory by Garth Brooks
You are missing three chords
That was truly a pleasure to hear this song ❤️
Lyrics "Glass in her hand, she ponders and paces Plotting escape from rocks and hard places She says 'Nick, it ain't always been this hard I'm tired of this living, lets take what's ours' And Nick is just a boy in an old man's town Schooling didn't suit him, so he dropped right out He looks at her now all ragged and sick He pulls her in close and says 'we'll get rich quick' And it looks like now they're headed all the way down Now they've both been scratching since they turned sixteen Picking that cotton just to hush those screams Times running short and lucks running thin And Nick's got a gun and a greedy man's grin And there's a little old lady all skin and bones He got a tip, she's got a script and she's living alone So, they pay a little visit and they get away clean Nobody got hurt, nobody got seen And it looks like now they're headed all the way down... Down where the angels don't dare to dance Across the cold river of a heart's last chance Singing with the devil to a pale half moon Howling with the wolves now a desperate tune Down at the bottom of a wishlist well The aimless roam, the shameless dwell Fallen like a feather with a silent shout Now they're headed all the way down... Way out in the woods where the Eastbrook rours Nicks got his eyes on a generous score We'll get in, we'll get out, we'll get out of these sticks Out to California with a golden fix But at the house at the end of the long dirt road There's a man whose hands have never been slow And he's been dreaming of a time before he got so deep Between the money and the pills, he can't get no sleep And it looks like now they're headed all the way down... So its knock knock knock & the screen door swung She's standing in the moonlight lookin' so young She says she's broke down and she needs a lift Nick's around the corner with a gun on his hip But when the shots come ringing, they ring too loud Three holes in his jacket Nick's on the ground She looks at him now all covered in blood She pulls him in close, her one true love And it looks like now they're headed all the way down Down where the angels don't dare to dance Across the cold river of a heart's last chance Singing with the devil to a pale half moon Howling with the wolves now a desperate tune Down at the bottom of a wishlist well The aimless roam, the shameless dwell Fallen like a feather with a silent shout Now they're headed all the way down..."
Idk no one has commented yet but I’ll be the first! This song is banger! Love your music
I don't know about luck. It sounds more like some poor decision making. Grey Goose will do that to you. Great song nonetheless.
Just stumbled on this guys name from a comment on an Isbell video. Big Ray Lamontagne vibes!
I don't know that name , bit now I'm gonna watch some Ray videos
2024 still awesome
Had to watch this one more time. Remember when you had balls? SO disappointed!!!
I really like the order you play them in and that you put emotion into it.
Chris? I hear your amazing cover for many years. In my opinion one of the best cover. JAH BLESS YOU
Damn dude. Your voice is unreal
Damn dude, I’ve listened to this song so many times over the years. I keep coming back to it. Every so often, one of these lyrics from this song will ring in my head and I’ll have to pull this back up. Thank you for this. Cheers!
Awesome cover!!!
Just casually dropping by to check ya relationship status 🥴💁🏻♀️😂
The only bad thing about this song is that it doesn't get enough airplay
That’s how it’s done.
Wonderful. Congratulations.
Damn, this is 🔥 ❤
does anyone know the chords he is playing in this version?
Hey man, hard to exactly remember from all those years ago, but nowadays when I play it it’s drop D, capo 2, but only capo the bottom 5 strings (so that drop D string is still fully open). Then C, walk the root down a half step, Am7, F. Those 4 chords are the whole song (at least the way I do it). Bridge just reverses those first three chords and still ends on the F.
It's a real pleasure to listen to your soulful version
Awesome cover dude
As a diehard Isbell fan from Alabama, this is almost a sacred song to me. You killed it! Amazing job.
Still rocking this hard... one of the greatest Tool covers in history
Still listening to this! Thanks for bringing the memories back that come with listening to this song.
Chris, please post more of your new stuff!! You played new songs at TMBB in Hermon last year….I’m hoping friends in Phillips lake will take advantage of your open schedule these next few weeks. 😊
Wished u showed the guitar my man ,,great version though
Incredible cover
really nice cover, you got the Isbell pipes. It would cool to hear s ome originals with that timber
Waow. Said it before. You still give me the chills.
2023 update - still the man... no one cover Isbell like you... by a mile.
Great Cover!!! Love it!!! ❤
This is now my favorite cover.
Heck yeah bro killing it man every time I look up a cover song I get frustrated because people suck most of the time lol good stuff dude
Wow. This is so good dude
Holy shit man this is amazing
great great rendition - very soulful - thankyou man x
One of your best originals! Honestly, brilliant lyrics. 🎉
Damn, bro. I've been following you since mostly sober these days. They gray hits me with the feelz. Let me know if you are ever in the Boston area. ❤
I thought I had left a comment here already, but it seems I was mistaken. This is far and away my favorite rendition of this song (yes, I like it better than any of Leonard Cohen's performances, and the less said about the artists who chop the final verses off the better) -- the unaccompanied guitar and the rawness of your singing voice combined to produce a version that tugs at the listener's soul. Like many other commenters, I have come back to your cover again and again, and I will continue to do so, for as long as the video remains up. Thank you.
Chris has a better sound than almost every singer he does a cover of.
Great job. With your slight rasp, I bet you can nail Bob Seger songs easily.
